Kahama...one more sleep to Murgwanza

Kahama….we are nearly there!! Today we drove from Dodoma to Kahama, the road was good but too many speed bumps and slow trucks.  Along the way we saw many villages and shamba’s people everywhere working their plots and small children herding the family cattle and goats. Such a contrast to life at home. Tonight we are staying in a hotel in Kahama about 3 hours south of Ngara. Kahama is a gold mining town and so quite well off. We have spent the afternoon chatting with Alex the hotel owner. Alex has given us some lessons in Swahili and general Tanzanian information. He is a well known man in his community and supports many poorer families.

Just outside the hotel gate the boys just spotted some local kids and have taken off across the road to play. The smaller kids ran away in tears when they saw the ‘wuzunga wototo’ but it has not taken long to break the ice. After a quick consult with Gershom and the Swahili word for wheel they are now all playing together rolling a tyre back and forth between them.

Alex tells us the road to Ngara is all tarmac but we will need a police escort through the forest as there are bandits. He assures us it will be ok. Others had told us not to travel too late in the day as the police close the road. We will have breakfast here then head off after 8am. We may go into Kahama to buy a printer and then on to Murgwanza by lunchtime.

It has been an interesting week of travel, we have had many blessings. The boys have travelled well and are so comfortable wherever we go, this has been a huge answer to prayer. They are anxious to get to Murgwanza and make new friend and get settled in school. We too are looking forward to travelling no more and settling into our life for 2011.

The guard at the hotel has a huge magnum shot gun.

Later.
